On November 5, we proudly hosted a pivotal conference titled Implementation Challenges of NGO Law: Building Trust Between Government and Civil Society. This event brought together influential voices from across the civil society sector to tackle pressing issues and foster collaboration.
Among the distinguished speakers were Josie Christodoulou, the Commissioner for Gender Equality, and Emina Nuredinoska, an expert from the European Center for Nonprofit Law (ECNL). Their insights and expertise set the tone for an engaging dialogue on the challenges NGOs face in implementing legal frameworks and navigating complex relationships with government entities.
The conference was held as part of the project Dialogue, Consultation, Empowerment – Protecting and Empowering Civil Society in Cyprus, which is funded by the BUILD programme and implemented by CSA. The initiative underscores the importance of creating an inclusive space for open discussions that can lead to stronger partnerships and greater transparency.
In addition to the conference, participants attended an invaluable seminar led by Emina Nuredinoska. The session focused on the practical implications of anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing provisions for NGOs, providing attendees with tools and knowledge to navigate these critical issues effectively.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and contributed to this meaningful dialogue. Together, we are committed to strengthening the collaboration between civil society and government, paving the way for a more transparent, inclusive, and sustainable future.
About the BUILD Programme
The BUILD programme supports the capacity-building and sustainability of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Greece and Cyprus. It is co-funded by the European Union through the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme, the Bodossaki Foundation - Ίδρυμα Μποδοσάκη, and the NGO Support Centre - Cyprus.
As we continue to advance these critical conversations, we remain dedicated to empowering civil society to thrive and contribute meaningfully to our communities.
